Auroras, also known as northern and southern (polar) lights or aurorae (singular: aurora), are natural light displays in the sky, usually observed at night, particularly in the polar regions. They typically occur in the ionosphere. They are also referred to as polar auroras.Its southern counterpart, the aurora australis or the southern polar lights, has similar properties, but is only visible from high southern latitudes in Antarctica, South America, or Australasia. Australis is the Latin word for "of the South." Auroras are common near the Poles. They are occasionally seen in temperate latitudes, when a magnetic storm temporarily expands the auroral oval. Large magnetic storms are most common during the peak of the eleven-year sunspot cycle or during the three years after that peak.
The lights color varies, and the most common colors are red, blue, yellow, and/or green. The way that the lights look are different each time. They are fairly common, however you need to be close to either the northern or southern poles. This is one of natures best shows that everyone should see before they die.
